Fusion 360 How To Break Lines

Aug 04, 2020

We're going to talk about how to break and divide lines and Fusion 360 so that it's easier to edit them and easier to make changes.

So when you need to break or divide a line, the command is called break. Do a search with your key find break. At any point, you can come in and break these lines right now. I don't have a way to break this. So let's say that you've got a rectangle that this would actually make sense. So I'm doing this extension here and I want those lines to line up.

So they're colinear. And now I want to be able to break this as one solid line right now. And as you can guess, if I try to delete this, it's going to delete the whole thing and ruin that dimension. That's not what I want. So let's do the break come in and we can break at this point where that red X is showing up. Now it's been divided or broken into two different lines. And at any time I could delete this line. If I want to delete that one, and I still have my dimension and I can still solve for that, I don't have to do this. I could still extrude. Even when I had the two regions, I can still extrude that. But sometimes, so where this is helpful is when you are introducing new entities, you want to be able to separate this.

You can see the sketch line is still one complete line. So maybe that's confusing or it's hard to edit. So if we introduce two breaks, now I get a warning, making sure that it's not removing dimensions or constraints based on what I just did, but I also, and now if I want to be able to select these two entities, I could make them construction and keep them in the sketch as a reference, or we could use the trim command to get rid of them. So let's do that. So if you're looking for some beginner tutorials, check out this playlist or this other video that hopefully is helpful. Thanks for watching.
