Fusion 360 - One Sketch Setting Everyone Should Know About

Fusion 360 - Really Cool Sketch Option!

One challenge that I have is I'll sketch out a shape like this, but I haven't done a dimension yet. And so when I drag one in, I realized this is coming in at two inches and maybe that's like twice as big as it's supposed to be. So when I go to one, this happens, right. The whole thing kind of just comes apart. And I just found a setting that I love in Fusion 360. So let's look at it, go to preferences. And then your preferences under design, bring up the option scale entire sketch after the first dimension. Love this one. So let's check it out. Okay. So when I come back and start sketching a shape, and again, I put all this energy in to get it again, to the rough kind of shape that I want it. Right?

And this is a method that is typically taught and a lot of SolidWorks and maybe even fusion classes is just being able to come in and sketch the overall rough shape without having to dimension constantly because of the parametric capability. But like I showed earlier sometimes if you're way off, it ends up being a lot of work. So in this case, if this is supposed to be 1.5, it rescale everything. And now I can start adding dimensions, but it is intelligent in the sense that, okay, now this is good, but I don't want it to fully rescale again, just cause I make a change to this dimension, but it doesn't, it's a onetime event and it's going to kind of behave as normal going forward. So I hope this is helpful to you as it was to me. I love this setting. You might want to check that one out.
