Insert Hardware Into Fusion 360

May 04, 2020

How do you insert a component like this one, this one, or this nut right into Fusion 360 coming up.

Hey, Tyler Beck with tech and espresso. How do you insert components from McMaster-Carr first? You can just hit S for search and type in McMaster-Carr. You'll find it. It's under insert. The pull down is here and you can directly grab a component, right from the catalog. You can stretch this. It makes it a little easier to browse their library. It's worth noting that not everything is available to download. I tried to find some nailers and staplers and other things. I couldn't find step files for everything. And some, you might find a file for a three D CAD. Some I found solid works. So I browse and find the part number hit product detail, and they have a drawing, and sometimes they might only have solid works or other 3d formats that don't work for Fusion 360.

You're looking for that step file. Typically the sat sometimes should work as well. Hit save. It's going to insert that directly into your current design. I already had one open and ready, so it's bringing another one in and I can move it, reorient that. So it brings in right from the catalog. So let's talk about the catalog for a second is you noticed before you can browse in, but let's say that you're browsing in and you're looking for a component and you change your mind. One easy way to get right back to the beginning, click on the McMaster Carr logo or name. It'll take you right back to this home screen and you can close it. Now, can you go out to the McMaster-Carr website and download the files? Absolutely. But this is a nice shortcut because it inserts it right in to your designs without having to go elsewhere and do those extra steps. I hope this helps see in the next video.
