Views in Fusion 360 - How To Change Them

Jun 03, 2020

Hey, so you're working in Fusion 360 and you notice when you go up to the view cube, it is all kinds of crazy.

The front view is not the front view. The top view is not the top view. How do we fix that? When you go to project in the drawing, it seems to be doing it the opposite of the way it should. I'm going to cover both in this video starting now. Hey, so you're working in Fusion 360 and your views are kind of strange. So when you go to create a drawing from design, pick your units, drop it in, and now it feels even crazier to you, right? This doesn't feel like the front view to me, that's actually not what I wanted, but then I just keep working with it projected off. And then the isometric is just completely wacky act in the part model or the design file.

 (00:57):

I'm going to look at these views. And what I want to do is instead of this being the bottom, I'm going to right click. So what I want to do is I want to set up maybe what is my actual front view. So get it into the orientation that you want. Maybe you do that by selecting a view, or you can select a face and look directly at it or normal to it. So that's my, the view that I want from my front view, I might even pan and get it just in the perfect spot, right? Click on this view, cube and choose set that current view as front. And so now I go to the front view and there it is. But when I go to home, that's not really what I wanted for home. I actually would like that isometric view. I kind of want this angled view to be my home. So I now also can right. Click and set this as my current view. And do you want to fit it or would you like to do a certain distance that gets you even more control over what you're getting?

(02:06):

Okay. So go to front view, go to home much better. Now, if I do the new drum, now we're going to start that drawing. And when we drop this in, this is going to behave much better. There's another challenge to be aware of when you place your front view, if you start projecting and you notice it's kind of the opposite of what you had intended. This top view is not what I had intended. That's, it's doing a certain style projection and it's different in the U S versus maybe Europe, those ISO and those ASMI standards. So this is doing the ISO standard. And if I come back and try again, do a new drawing this time, we're going to do ASM a and I'm doing millimeters. Cause that's what I was working in. Now, when I start the views place, my front view project, top view, right view and isometric.

 (02:58):

These are all what I had kind of intended for this particular drawing that let's change all of them at once to maybe a shaded. So we can see it just a little bit better. Okay. Front, top, right. Isometric. And that's what I'm used to working in the United States with third angle projection checkup. So just so you know, there is a difference between the two projection styles when you're working in Fusion 360 and on drawings. So if you're confused by this first angle and third angle thing, check out this other video here, where I explained the differences and changing the settings. So Hey, if you're a beginner and you'd like to learn how to build this part, or some others check out these videos in this playlist, I made for you as well as this other video that YouTube says is a good fit for you. See in the next video.
